Directions
This walk is mainly on permissive footpaths and bridleways of the Great Melton Estate, supported by Natural England, and a little on quiet country lanes.
Please remember to take nothing but memories and photographs, leaving nothing but footprints. and follow the footpath signs.
01. Turn right out of the Village Hall car park, walk to a T-Junction and turn right. Just before the end of speed restrictions sign, turn left through a large gap in the hedge onto a footpath. Follow this footpath around the edge of a field with the hedge on your right, across a field and then with another hedge on your right to reach Great Melton Road.
02. At the road turn right, then almost immediately left to cross a field on a footpath to reach a hedge. Continue with the hedge on your left, follow the path around the corner of the field, then go through the wide gap and turn right.
03. Follow this path, with the hedge on your right, then bear left along a the well-worn path as it bends slightly to the left, then crossing a wide path, walking towards a gap in the hedge in front of you.
04. The path then goes through this gap in a hedge to the left of a gate. Turn left and walk to the right of the hedge to reach a wood. Walk through this wood until you reach a large field. On reaching the field, turn right and follow the path completely around the field, with the hedge on your right, all the way back to where you started. Ignore the ‘Footpath closed’ sign, as it refers to another footpath.
05. Turn right along the path that you used to enter the field and follow it into the woods. In the middle of these woods take the path to your right. At the end of the wood turn left to walk with a hedge and pit to your left. Keep towards a Hethersett Pit sign and continue ahead, again with the hedge on your left. Exit the path through a hedge onto Market Lane down a steep slope.
06. Turn right and continue along the road to reach a T-junction, turn left into Rectory Lane and continue to the next junction. Turn right along Mill Road, past All Saints Church on your right, to return to the Village Hall car park by turning left at the next junction.
