Join night guide Jon Tyler for a fascinating journey into the dark-side of the woods. Explore the wonder and awe of the ‘mirror world’ to be found along the rides and pathways of Thornham’s woodland in the magical twilight time, between day and night.

We will begin our odyssey around sunset then as the light fades the night shift will gradually wake around us. Along the way there will be a series of night challenge activities to find out more about nocturnal wildlife and explore some curious effects upon our senses. We will listen out for (and call to) the Muntjac deer, maybe encounter owls and see stars twinkle through the treetops. Then as our night vision develops we will head deeper into the woods to investigate the deer night-sanctuary along with low light phenomena such as colour shifts, triboluminescence and even disappearing heads!

The challenge walk will begin around 8pm but please arrive between 7.30 and 7.45 pm. As the pace of the walk is slow, come prepared with warm clothing. Sturdy footwear is recommended as the terrain may be uneven and slippery. Bring a drink and a snack as well as a torch, but be prepared for a journey mainly in the dark.
