Harleston Players present ‘My Family and Other Animals’ by Gerald Durrell
It is 1935, and the Durrell family – Larry, Leslie, Margo and Gerry, their widowed mother and Roger the dog – flee dismal Bournemouth and arrive on the sun-soaked shores of Corfu to start a New Life.
For eleven-year-old Gerry the island’s exotic fauna inspires a lifelong fascination with the animal kingdom. But things rarely go smoothly.
Add into the mix his wonderfully eccentric family and a colourful cast of Greek peasants, hapless tutors, lugubrious servants, pretentious artists and romantic suitors, and the scene is set for a whirlwind Greek adventure that sparkles with wit and fun!
With a wonderful array of puppets, from tortoises, scorpions and water snakes to dogs, magpies and even a donkey, we invite you to embrace the inevitable chaos and throw yourself into the enchanting world of the Durrells.
