Drama: The 1893 Roydon Riots
Enclosure and social conditions were bringing the village to boiling point. Sparks flew at the Hall when the womanising Squire married an 18-year-old girl who was younger than her step-daughters.
This was the background to the Roydon Riots – a retrospective view by Basil Abbott and friends, of the drama production presented in the village for the 1993 centenary.
