A Free Community Concert
A rare opportunity to hear classical music played by some of the country’s finest musicians is coming to Rattlesden Pavilion and Beccles Public Hall on 12th and 13th September 2023 – and tickets are free!
The Community Concerts, from Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra, are designed to appeal to those who are older, less mobile, or who struggle to travel to live musical events in major towns and cities – but everyone is welcome.
At both events, from 11.30am – 1pm, a group of players from Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra will entertain the audience for an hour’s mini-concert, followed by refreshments and light bites. The music will include part of The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams and other music celebrating the natural world.
Joined by members of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, the players will also visit and perform in four of the county’s primary schools at Rattlesden Primary, Hadleigh Primary, Worlingham Primary in Beccles and Phoenix St Peter Academy in Lowestoft. Children will discover more about the skylark in East Anglia at each event, designed to inspire the young musicians and environmentalists of the future.
Leslie Olive, founder and conductor of the SPO said: “We very much look forward to September’s community concerts and school visits. It can be so difficult, if not impossible, for so many people of all ages living in rural parts of Suffolk to access wonderful live music. Audiences to our previous community concerts have told us how much they value and enjoy the experience, alongside the chance to meet and chat with friends and neighbours over lunch.
“We would like to thank all our funding partners, local businesses and SPO friends who make events like these possible.”
The community concerts take place at Rattlesden Pavilion, Birds Green, Rattlesden, Bury St. Edmunds, IP30 0RS on Tuesday 12th September and Beccles Public Hall and Theatre, Smallgate, Beccles NR34 9AD on Wednesday 13th September 2023.
