A talk by Sarah Cassell, UEA specialist on angel roofs in medieval churches. In her presentation on‘Angel Roofs – Imagery and Belief’ – Sarah will ‘unpack’ the meaning and symbolism of roof carvings in churches across the region, as well as, in particular in Gissing church. Sarah will explain what these carvings would have meant to the medieval population of Gissing, where religious symbolism would have had far greater significance to people then, than perhaps now in a more secular age.
